Are Dr. Hauschka products vegan?
The ingredients in Dr. Hauschka Skin Care are primarily plant-based. Even ingredients that are typically animal-derived, glycerin, stearates, and other fatty acids, we source exclusively from plant origins. A small number of our products include ingredients from the animal kingdom — each chosen deliberately, for a specific skin benefit:
- Beeswax, propolis wax, honey - natural emollient with skin-protective properties; sourced from ecological beekeeping
- Milk sugar - gentle skin-softening ingredient
- Silk powder - light-diffusing texture and skin-smoothing properties
- Lanolin - highly compatible skin conditioner
- Carmine - natural pigment used in select make-up products
Why our full skin care range isn't vegan?
We make ingredient decisions based on one question: what does the skin genuinely need? Our formulas are primarily botanical — but when an ingredient from the animal kingdom offers a real, meaningful benefit that plant sources can’t replicate, we use it. We don’t follow conventions. We follow the skin.
For example, beeswax is a valuable substance for natural skin care. A gift from nature, which we use with the utmost care. Dr. Hauschka Skin Care products are solely made from organic beeswax sourced from ecological beekeeping practices in Germany. The producers are subject to the strict regulations established by Demeter or Bioland, associations for biodynamic and organic farming, respectively.
Depending on the skin’s needs, we decide whether or not to use animal-derived raw materials for each individual product. In doing this, we are aware that whenever we take something from nature, we are responsible for the environment and the quality of the substance we have taken away.
