We have a long tradition of innovation, which began with the development of our unique rhythmic manufacturing process by Dr. Rudolf Hauschka. Today, we complement age-old knowledge with state-of-the-art technology. Our laboratories continue to conduct intensive basic research into active botanical ingredients, which we then use to develop new vital formulations.

Our scientific legacy.
Our co-founder Dr. Rudolf Hauschka built our research tradition on a conviction that conventional extraction methods were missing something. He did not like that plant extracts often contained alcohol as a preservative and so he developed a process that instead uses the rhythms of nature and the power of natural polarities: the rhythmic alternation between light and darkness, warmth and cold, movement and rest. That process became the foundation of everything we make.
Why are we constantly researching?
Our science team builds on that foundation every day using current analytical tools to explore the previously untapped potential of botanical ingredients. Not just what a plant contains. What it can do.
How We Formulate.
Every Dr. Hauschka product is developed from scratch. We believe that every plant and every natural ingredient has specific properties that affect the whole composition which means every product needs its own concept, not a template filled with different actives. We choose from over 1,000 raw materials for each formulation, aligning every component to create something that works as a whole.
State-of-the-art technology meets manual processes.
Modern laboratory technology and manual craft aren’t in opposition here — they work together. We sow the seeds for many of the plants we use ourselves in our own herb garden – and even harvest them by hand. For example, we use about seven tons of bright yellow calendula flowers every year, and we pick each one by hand.
Much of the production is also still done manually. Our Facial Toner, for example, matures in large vats for 21 days and is stirred by hand every morning. The long maturation period and careful handling allow the valuable ingredients to optimally combine and create an effective overall composition.
