What is “climate neutral?”
Our production facility in Bad Boll, Germany has been 100% C02 neutral since 2020. 85% of this is “true” neutrality – i. e., the targeted avoidance of C02 emissions. The remaining 15% of unavoidable emissions we offset using atmosfair*, which supports climate protection projects around the world. Our vision? To set the entire value chain on the path towards climate neutrality.
Offsetting isn’t enough. We’re going further.
Every business action has consequences for the planet. That’s simply true, and we’re not going to pretend otherwise. Many companies claim “climate neutral” status without meaningfully reducing their emissions — using offsets to balance the books while leaving the root cause untouched. From our point of view, offsetting only combats the effects of climate-damaging emissions. We want to eliminate their source.
That approach costs more. Reducing actual emissions requires four times the investment compared to offsetting alone. We make that investment because we believe it’s the only honest path to genuine climate neutrality — for ourselves and, ultimately, across our entire supply chain.
Concrete actions, measurable results.
In January 2020, we switched our production facility fully to biomethane produced from waste materials — avoiding approximately 2,000 tonnes of CO₂ per year. To put that in perspective: that’s the equivalent of reforesting around 17–21 acres of land. We’ve also continuously expanded our photovoltaic systems across the facility.
For us, climate action is anchored in nature.
Our organic and biodynamic farming methods require 30–50% less energy than conventional agriculture — and significantly less water. Naturally nutrient-rich soil doesn’t need synthetic fertilizers, and it stores more carbon than depleted land. The way we grow our ingredients isn’t separate from our climate commitment. It’s part of it.
We design packaging to stay useful — not to be thrown away.
By using aluminum tubes made from recycled industrial waste, we achieve energy savings of 95% compared to producing new aluminum. We design our packaging to remain in the material cycle for as long as possible — minimizing what ends up in landfill. In 2025, we reached our goal of making 90% of our packaging materials recyclable.
We grow regionally wherever we can.
70% of our fresh plants are regionally sourced — grown close to our production facility in Eckwälden. Shorter supply chains mean lower transport emissions, and they mean we know exactly where our ingredients come from. For botanicals that don’t grow in our climate, we apply a clear principle: “As close as possible, as far away as necessary.”
Truly neutral. Across the full operation.
Our vision is climate neutrality across our entire operation and supply chain — not just our production facility, but every step of the value chain from raw material to finished product. The path requires the participation of our partners worldwide. By 2030, we are committed to reducing our greenhouse gas emissions by at least 85% compared to 2019 levels.
