From the beginning, we have based our approach on an in-depth understanding of the power of plants to renew and help maintain health. To create the most effective botanical preparations, we have to be sure that we're using the healthiest, most vital plants we can.

That's how biodynamics became such an important part of our history. Biodynamics is a holistic, sustainable form of agriculture that dates back to the 1920s.

Biodynamic farming recognizes the rhythmic, symbiotic relationships between soil, plants, animals, human beings, the earth and the sun, with the ultimate goal of making each garden or farm a healthy, self-sustaining ecosystem.

Dr.Hauschka manufacturer WALA Heilmittel has owned and maintained its own Biodynamically-cultivated gardens for over sixty years. Many of the botanicals used in Dr.Hauschka Skin Care and Holistic Home Remedies preparations come from these very gardens, as well as from the biodynamic farm they now operate nearby.

WALA also founds and supports initiatives in developing parts of the world to encourage organic farming and economic self-sufficiency:

In Burkina Faso, Africa, WALA helped local women establish sustainable agriculture cooperatives to produce shea butter. Those cooperatives now provide all the certified organic shea butter WALA needs to manufacture its Dr.Hauschka Skin Care products.

A rose project in Afghanistan organized by German Agro Action provides the people of Afghanistan with an alternative to growing opium poppy, German Agro Action supports some 200 farmers in cultivating roses to produce essential rose oil. WALA also contributes its expertise to the project.
