Acacia Senegal Gum

The sap of various acacia species dries to form a rubber-like resin. This is sometimes called gum Arabic. It improves the viscosity of a preparation. Provides quick drying and smudge resistance.
Aesculus Hippocastanum (Horse Chestnut) Bark Extract

Horse chestnut is a rich source of OPCs (oligo-proanthocyanadins), antioxidant plant compounds similar to those in pine bark (pycnogenol) and grape seed. OPCs have astringent, toning and strengthening properties, especially to veins and capillaries.

Horse chestnut seed extract has similar properties to the bark extract (see above) but contains more esculin, a potent antioxidant compound which counters skin-damaging free radicals.
Alchemilla Vulgaris (Lady’s Mantle) Extract

Lady’s Mantle has a high tannin content, indicating its beneficial firming effect on the elasticity of the skin and its ability to balance moisture.
Alcohol

A food-grade ethyl alcohol (ethanol) from organically grown wheat. Many plants are extracted in alcohol because it extracts the widest variety of plant constituents. Alcohol also serves as a natural emulsifier, preservative and carrier, helping ingredients penetrate the skin. Alcohol is not drying to the skin when part of a carefully formulated Dr.Hauschka composition. Our alcohol is derived from a fermentation and distillation process and is gluten-free.
Algin

Algin is a gel-forming substance obtained from marine algae (seaweed) which thickens and stabilizes creams and keeps the skin supple.

Amber Powder

Rhythmitised dilution of amber, a semi-precious yellowish-brown stone that revitalizes the skin.
Anagallis Arvensis Extract

Rhythmitised dilution of scarlet pimpernel soothes and calms itchy skin. It serves as a model for proper fluid distribution in the skin.
Ananas Sativus (Pineapple) Fruit Extract

Anthyllis Vulneraria Extract

Also known as woundwort or kidney vetch. “Vulneraria” denotes plant with wound healing properties. This plant is a member of the legume family and native to Southern Europe. Anthyllis is little known today, but was traditionally used to relieve spasms, detoxify, reduce swelling and promote wound healing. Elisabeth Sigmund studied anthyllis extensively. She observed a normalization of oily, dry and even irritated skin. Anthyllis has a generally stimulating and normalizing effect on the skin. It is a key plant in Dr.Hauschka Skin Care, found in many face care preparations and decorative cosmetics.

Argania Spinosa (Argan) Kernel Oil

A nutrient-rich, nourishing and emollient oil from the thorny evergreen Moroccan ironwood tree cares for the skin and adds shine to lipsticks. The tree produces a fruit containing large seeds which are pressed to extract the precious oil. Ironwood trees grow only in Morocco and are protected by the Moroccan Arganeria Desert Preserve for their important role in preventing encroachment of the Sahara desert. Fair trade in this sustainable harvest helps the local economy and encourages preservation of the trees.
