Heifer International and Dr.Hauschka Skin Care: a positive partnership

In 1944 a farmer from Indiana had a simple idea to try to end hunger: rather than continue handing out short-term relief, why not provide families with a renewable source of food? That deceptively simple idea led to the creation of Heifer International, an organization that has helped millions of people in more than 125 countries in the 60 years since. By donating gifts of livestock, Heifer enables families to feed their children, send them to school, provide housing and health care and build strong, self-reliant communities.

Dan West’s simple idea had a unique twist: recipients of livestock gifts would donate one or more of their animal’s offspring to others in the community, ensuring that the gift of food would be never-ending. Today, Heifer provides families with gifts of water buffaloes, llamas, yaks, goats, sheep, rabbits, honeybees, pigs, chicks, ducks, geese, trees and, of course, heifers. Gifts of livestock provide a multitude of benefits, including better nutrition and increased income from milk and eggs, clothing and farmland cultivation.

At Dr.Hauschka, we, too, see the need for sustainable, environmentally friendly practices around the world. For decades our manufacturer, WALA Heilmittel, has worked globally with local communities to establish fair-trade organic and Biodynamic® cooperatives that provide us with the highest quality botanical ingredients while helping to promote sustainable agriculture and economic self-reliance.
