Aesculus Hippocastanum (Horse Chestnut) Bark Extract

Horse chestnut is a rich source of OPCs (oligo-proanthocyanadins), antioxidant plant compounds similar to those in pine bark (pycnogenol) and grape seed. OPCs have astringent, toning and strengthening properties, especially to veins and capillaries. This allows Horse Chestnut Bark to serve as an anti-inflammatory agent.

Aesculus Hippocastanum (Horse Chestnut) Seed Extract

Horse chestnut seed extract has similar properties to the bark extract [see Aesculus Hippocastanum (Horse Chestnut) Bark Extract] but contains more esculin, a sun-protective antioxidant compound which counters the penetration and damaging effects of UV light.

Alcohol

Aluminum Hydroxide

A thin coating on micronized titanium dioxide to prevent clumping, enhancing sun protection. Neither the titanium dioxide nor its aluminum hydroxide coating can penetrate the skin.

Aluminum Oxide

A naturally occurring mineral found in nature as corundum. This mineral pigment provides glitter to the Novum Lipsticks. Aluminum Oxide is not absorbed through the skin and is approved by BDIH.

Anthyllis Vulneraria Extract

Also known as Woundwort or Kidney Vetch. Vulneraria means "wound healer". A member of the legume family and native to Southern Europe. Anthyllis is little known today, but was traditionally used to relieve spasms, detoxify, reduce swelling and promote wound healing. Elisabeth Sigmund studied anthyllis extensively. She observed a normalization of both oily and dry conditions and even severely irritated skin. Anthyllis has a generally stimulating and normalizing effect on the skin.

Arachis Hypogaea (Peanut) Oil

Peanut oil is used as an extracting medium for many WALA Oil Extracts and as the base for the Body Oils. It has a neutral energy that does not interfere with healing herbs. It is a very stable oil, requiring no additional antioxidants. As a massage oil, it provides an ideal glide, weight and rate of absorption. Our peanut oil is steam treated and filtered to remove the proteins which are responsible for peanut allergies. Our peanut oil has been tested and certified as aflatoxin free.

Argania Spinosa (Argan) Kernel Oil

A nourishing oil from the Moroccan ironwood tree, adds shine to the Lipsticks Novum. The ironwood trees are protected by the Moroccan Arganeria Desert Preserve for their important role in preventing encroachment of the Sahara desert. Fair trade in this sustainable harvest helps the local economy and encourages preservation of the trees.

Arnica Montana Flower Extract

Extract made from the flower heads/blossoms of the Arnica montana plant. Arnica contains many compounds, including flavonoids, silicic acid, carotenoids and essential oils. It is used as a topical anti-inflammatory and immune-stimulant in tinctures or oils for sprains and bruises. Also used in hair tonics and anti-dandruff preparations.

Artemesia Abrotanum (Southernwood) Extract

Related to wormwood, another artemesia, southernwood has a normalizing effect on capillary functions. It helps counter the effects of excessive cold.
