    our favorite nonprofits
In the middle of the last century Dr. Rudolf Hauschka set out to build a different kind of company. He envisioned an organization for which profits would not be the ultimate goal but rather the means to a greater end. Profits would be a tool, enabling the company to better pursue its true mission: to give back to the human community, encourage well-being and help heal the earth. At the core of Hauschka's vision is a profound respect for the planet and its inhabitants, and for more than 40 years Dr.Hauschka Skin Care has been making this vision into a reality with its support of sustainable Biodynamic agriculture and fair trade practices around the world.

Great comfort and inspiration comes from knowing we are not alone in our efforts. We're proud to acknowledge the following organizations for their commitment to these principles:

    Biodynamics

Based on a series of lectures given by Austrian philosopher Rudolf Steiner in 1924, Biodynamics is a method of agriculture that seeks to actively work with the health-giving forces of nature. It is the oldest non-chemical agricultural movement, predating the organic agriculture movement by some twenty years and has now spread throughout the world.

The Biodynamic Farming and Gardening Association (BDA), a non-profit organization open to the public, was formed in the U.S. in 1938 in order to foster, guide, and safeguard the Biodynamic method of agriculture.

    Farm Aid
    http://www.farmaid.org

Working to keep family farmers on their land, Farm Aid brings together family farmers and citizens to guarantee fresh local food is available to you. Together we can restore family farm-centered agriculture that ensures safe, healthful food, protects natural resources, and strengthens local economies.

Farm Aid exceeds the 65 percent standard for program expenditures set by the Better Business Bureau and other charity watchdog groups that monitor non-profit performance. Eighty cents of every Farm Aid dollar goes to programs supporting family farmers, including grants to organizations that help keep farmers on their land.

Dr. Hauschka Skin Care was proud to be a 2005 corporate sponsor of the annual Farm Aid benefit concert.

    Heifer
    http://www.heifer.org

Today, millions of people who were once hungry will be nourished by milk, eggs and fresh vegetables. Families who for generations knew only poverty will be building new homes and starting businesses. Children who once headed out to the fields to do backbreaking work will be heading into schoolrooms to learn to read. And people who never thought they’d be in a position to help someone else will be experiencing the joy of charitable giving.

How is this possible? With Heifer’s proven approach – almost 60 years in the making – to helping people obtain a sustainable source of food and income.
