A return to rhythm, to the natural cycles of our inner and outer lives, is essential to the process of healing and awakening beauty. In her book Awakening Beauty the Dr.Hauschka Way , Dr.Hauschka President Susan West Kurz suggests ways in which we can get in touch with our natural rhythms and transform ourselves inside and out. Every month we'll feature a new suggested exercise for re-establishing the rhythm of healing in your life.

Afternoon Walk (p. 128)

Right Action
Take a five- or ten-minute walk at lunch every day. Don’t worry about your distance or speed. Remember, you are walking according to your own rhythms. If you’re feeling energized, walk faster; if you want to relax, stroll.

Even a short walk relieves tension and stress. It elevates the heart rate, improves circulation, and stretches muscles to provide greater range of motion. It can also strengthen your bones. Researchers have found that three ten-minute walks per day have the same effect on your fitness as a single thirty-minute walk -- and thirty minutes of walking per day significantly improves weight, muscle tone, and cardiovascular fitness.
