From the beginning, Dr.Hauschka Skin Care has based its approach to personal care on an in-depth understanding of the power of healing plants to restore and maintain healthy skin. To create the most effective botanical preparations, we have to be sure that we're using the healthiest, most vital plants we can.
That's where Biodynamics® comes into play. Biodynamics is a holistic, sustainable form of agriculture that dates all the way back to the 1920's. It takes into account everything from the cycles of the moon and stars to the soil, plants, animals and people, with the ultimate goal of making each garden or farm a healthy self-sustaining ecosystem. Dr.Hauschka manufacturer WALA Heilmittel has owned and maintained their own certified Biodynamic gardens for over sixty years, and a number of the botanicals used in Dr.Hauschka Skin Care preparations comes from these very gardens. WALA also founds and supports initiatives in developing parts of the world to encourage Biodynamic farming and economic self-sufficiency. A project in Bulgaria, for example, provides WALA with Biodynamic roses at fair-trade prices, allowing local farmers to be more socially secure and financially independent. In Burkina Faso, Africa, WALA helped local women establish sustainable agriculture cooperatives to produce shea butter. Those cooperatives now provide all the certified organic shea butter WALA needs to manufacture its Dr.Hauschka Skin Care products.
